DANDRUFF

How To Get Rid Of Dandruff?

Vinegar is poured into the hair, massaged into the scalp, and left to dry for a few minutes.

Then the hair is washed.

The process is repeated daily until the dandruff disappears, usually within a few days.

SPLIT ENDS

The problem of split ends occurs when the cuticle is damaged and the fibres of the cortex unravel. This happens because of chemicals, neglect and harsh treatment.

Conditioner will not fix this problem. You will need to have the split ends cut off.

It is best to go to the hair dresser but you may do it yourself. Just take some small sections of hair strands, twist them, very carefully run some scissors up and down the hair shaft cutting off any stray ends that poke out.

HOMEMADE HAIR SPRAY

Chop one lemon (or an orange for dry hair). Place in a pot with 2 cups water. Boil until half of the initial amount remains. Cool, strain, and place in a spray bottle. Store in the refrigerator.

If it is too sticky, add more water. Add one ounce rubbing alcohol as a preservative and then the spray can be stored for up to two weeks un refrigerated.

STRAIGHTEN YOUR HAIR

How To Straighten Your Hair?

So, do you want to straighten your curls? Here's how:

  • Wash and condition hair.
  • Blot dry. Hair should be almost dry when you begin.
  • Gather up hair into several sections and secure or clip hair on top of your head. You will be drying the bottom layers first.
  • Follow the brush (with your dryer) down the sections of hair as you straighten each section and be sure to keep the dryer moving.
  • Take down a new section of hair and proceed as directed above.
  • Work your way up the layers until all sections are dried and straightened.
  • To curl the ends for a polished look, take your brush and pull the ends under. Finish your styling with a blast of cool air if your hairdryer has this capability.

Tips

  • Be sure to condition your hair often. Sun, cold temperatures plus the use of your hair dryer can be hard on your hair.
  • For best results, use products formulated for your hair type. It does make a difference.
  • Give your hair a break and allow it to dry naturally as often as possible.
  • Have split ends snipped every six weeks to two months to ensure that they don't travel up the hair shaft.

YOUR BEST HAIR EVER!

If Your Hair Is Curly:
Since your hair is prone to dryness, use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner.

After washing, gently blot hair dry with an absorbent towel and apply 4 to 6 drops of silicone-based shine serum (the thicker your hair, the more you can use).

Detangle hair with fingers, and allow it to air dry.

If Your Hair Is Wavy:
Lather up with a shine-enhancing shampoo and conditioner. Rinse well.

Smooth and separate wet strands with wide-tooth comb, then spritz a silicone-based shine-enhancing spray from ends to roots.

Dry hair using a blow-dryer with a tapered nozzle to direct air down the hair shaft and seal the cuticle.

If Your Hair Is Straight:
Your hair tends to lie flat against your scalp, where it can accumulate shine-dulling grease.

To avoid this, use a deep-cleaning shampoo daily and apply a clarifying gel treatment to roots once a week to prevent oil buildup.

After blowing hair dry, use a flatiron to enhance sheen.

DEFRIZZ

Defrizzing Your Hair
In the lexicon of hair, the F word is "frizz". Nothing is harder on a hairstyle, except, perhaps, a red-eye flight or a typhoon.

Here's how to avoid an uprising:
a. Shampoo and Condition

Wash hair, concentrating on the scalp, using a low-detergent shampoo (the tip-off is that it doesn't lather very much, but when in doubt, buy formula for fine hair). Rinse and apply conditioner, leave it in for a few minutes, and rinse with cool water. Then press - don't rub - wet hair with a towel. Comb your hair gently with a wide-tooth comb.

b. Apply Styling Products

While hair is still soaking wet, rub a blob of silicone gel, cream, or serum between your palms and run hands down the length of hair to seal the cuticles shut. The coarser the hair, the heavier and richer the product should be. To make sure every strand is coated from the roots to the ends, pin up the top layers of hair and smooth gel or serum on the bottom layers first.

c. Dry
If you have curly hair and want to wear it natural, let it air-dry, or blow-dry it using a diffuser. Hold the dryer so that the diffuser cradles hair from below. To wear hair straight, divide it into two-inch-wide sections. Blow-dry each one on high from roots to ends, using a metal barrel or boar-bristle brush and pointing the nozzle down. To reseal cuticles, use just serum or pomade on dry hair.

Tricks
Shampoo only every other day - since detergent inflates the hair shaft and roughs up cuticles. On alternative days, rinse hair and condition only the ends.

To clean hair without fluffing frizz-prone ends, New York hairstylist River Lloyd recommends applying shampoo only at the crown.

After blowing hair straight, switch the dryer to a cool setting for a few seconds, and blow each section again.

BEAUTIFUL SUMMER HAIRSTYLE

Does Your Hair Need a Summer Vacation?
Beauty Icon José Eber Shares the Latest Looks for Sultry Days and Nights.

If your current cut and color could use an update for the long, hot days of summer, José Eber and his Artistic Team, comprised of the best stylists and colorist from Eber's nationwide collection of salons, have developed a winning formula for creating and maintaining the hottest looks for the months ahead.

Sometimes change is like a summer vacation. A great hair cut. A splash of color. Two simple elements that can change your look and leave you feeling relaxed, carefree and ready to enjoy any summer destination, whether in on the sands of Saint Tropez or poolside in your own backyard. A fantastic summer hairstyle can be, in and of itself, like a long, languorous holiday - without the sun damage.

Each season at José Eber Atelier, our top stylists and colorists work with me to create collections of hairstyles to complement both the casual and couture fashions introduced on runways across the world. Here we unveil some of the most exciting looks for the summer of 2001.

This season, we have created feminine, easy to maintain looks that accentuate, not overpower, the pastel colors, floral prints, and lightweight fabrics that help to beat the heat and humidity. These summer tresses are fresh, bouncy, boast lots of sexy shine and cry out to be touched.

My philosophy has always been that beauty is more than hair, facial features and body type. There is no one hairstyle or color that will work for every woman, but there is a look that is just right for you. So keep in mind that while creating your own signature summer style, the overall goal is to not just be more beautiful but more confident and comfortable with who you are.

With this in mind, here are a few tips and trends to really help you radiate from sunrise to sunset.

Solid Summer Shimmer

This seasons colors are all about one process, solid looks. Locks in pure shades of auburn, chestnut, and pale blonde will dominate. Streaks are out. Shiny, sexy, healthy looking hair is in.

Breezy, Carefree Cuts
Summer hair is all about a great cut. This season's lines are more blunt than in recent seasons and are accentuated with light layers that move.

Avoid Overexposure
Even the most attentive, expensive hair care regimen may not deliver the looks you want when you consider the abuses of summer. Sun, heat, chlorine, haircolor, overdrying, and product buildup can all damage hair, and the consequences are twice as bad during the summer months. Instead of creating complicated styles, focus most of your attention on the care and conditioning of your hair.

So, be sure to wear sunscreen made especially for hair. There are several great products on the market right now.

Don't over shampoo - the heat and sun will already dry hair - too much shampoo will make it even dryer. You can wash with shampoo every other day but you must condition every day.

Take the lazy days of summer to liven up your locks with leave in conditioner applied liberally while at the beach or lying by the pool. How should you deep-condition your hair? Start an inch down from your scalp where you don't need more oil, especially in warm weather, comb conditioner through and massage into the ends. Keep on several minutes, or wear all day on trendily twisted, pinned-up tresses.

At José Eber Atelier, we use our own signature line of products, Biolure. Made with natural plant extracts, essential oils and herbs, they are ideal for gently cleansing conditioning and styling hair of all types. Biolure Daily Shampoo is very gentle on summer hair while Biolure Daily Conditioner can be rinsed right out or left in for extra conditioning.

Cover Up
Hats and scarves a la Bridget Jones are a must if you plan to be in the sun for an extended period of time or hair will end up bleached, dry and brittle.. And, after swimming in the ocean, lake or pool, rinse hair immediately to remove chemicals, salts and other impurities that can be disastrous to hair color and condition.

Make a Statement
Accessorize. Headbands, barrettes in all shapes and sizes, and more sophisticated hair jewelry can help to maintain sleek summer looks, make styling easy, and add sizzle to a straightforward cut. While on the beach, apply conditioner to the hair and wrap it with a colorful scarf. On breezy summer evenings, keep hair in place with a headband or barrettes. Use accessories to express your individuality and playful side.

Follow your intuition about what warm weather-friendly colors, cuts and adornments look best on you. With a little inspiration from the sun, sights and simple pleasures of summertime, you can go places you never dreamed you'd go.

HOW TO GIVE YOURSELF A TRIM?

Peeking out from a bit of fringe is sexy. Bang-induced blindness is not.

If you are not quite ready for a full haircut, take things into your own hands: "trimming your own bangs will keep your cut looking fresh between salon visits", says stylist Garren of the Garren New York salon.

He tells clients to trim about an eight of an inch every month.

Here's how to do it at home:
First, grab a pair of straightedge cuticle or mustache scissors. Style bangs as usual and clip back the rest of your hair. Start at the center of your bangs and work your way to the outside.

Using your fingers, gently hold a small section of dry hair - only about 10 to 12 hairs at a time - straight down against your forehead. (Don't pull too tight - you'll stretch the hair and end up cutting a lot more)

Trim and cut below your fingers to keep from cutting it shorter than you'd like.

When you are done trimming each section, comb it back into the rest of your bangs to check length (and that they are even) before moving on.

When you reach the end, return to the center and trim in the opposite direction until you are done.

BRUSHING LONG HAIR

How To Brush Long Hair Properly ?
Bend forward, allowing hair to fall. Using only a wooden base natural bristle brush, bring hair from the nape of the neck over the head and down to the ends. Then,

stand straight again with hair falling normally and brush from the underside of the hairline down the strands to the ends. Now,

brush the top layers into place with long, even strokes. After each stroke, smooth hair with hands to reduce static.

Increase the number of strokes weekly, starting with five and increasing by one a week until you find a comfortable routine. If oiliness develops, reduce strokes.

Brush only when dry. Hair is weakest when it is wet and brushing can easily damage it. Even when hair is dry, always comb before brushing.

DEALING WITH DANDRUFF!!!

How To Deal With Dandruff ?

Some are of the opinion that at the early stages of hair loss, dandruff begins to increase. However, an increase in the amount of dandruff does not necessarily mean that there is a "cause-effect" relationship resulting in the thinning of hair.

You should think of excessive dandruff as a warning sign as far as the health of the hair is concerned.

Dandruff is made up of bits of dead skin that peel away from the scalp as a result of the effects of metabolism. Normally, dandruff, in its early stages of growth, is not visible to the naked eye. It becomes visible only after enlarging into pieces of dead skin (what we normally call "dandruff") as a result of the propagation of bacteria and/or problems with seborrhoeic scalp conditions.

Persons suffering from prolonged dandruff are said to have a dandruff ailment. This type of ailment, accompanied by itchiness, can lead to eczema if it worsens. Suppressing the propagation of bacteria is one means of dealing with fatty dandruff. This is because bacteria is one of the causes of this condition.

If possible, try to shampoo on a daily basis to prevent bacterial propagation. One effective means of dealing with dandruff is to disinfect the scalp area with commercially available medicated shampoos specifically designed for dandruff removal. However, daily shampooing can lead to eczema for persons who suffer from dry scalps. Shampooing once every three days may be ideal for such persons.

Persons who suffer from persistent, hard-to-cure dandruff are urged to consult a skin specialist.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I COLOR MY HAIR?

It depends on the growth rate of your hair," says colorist Giselle of the Pierre Michel salon in Manhattan. "You should go in for a highlight application every two to four months, and single process color application about every six weeks.

Giselle, who has pumped up the blonde in such actresses as Sharon Stone and Renee Zellwegger, also says, "During the summer hair grows faster, but it also naturally lightens up, so you don't have to get your highlights done as often as during the winter.

BEFORE YOU COLOR IT

Before you color your hair...
Well, the week before you color you hair, make sure to really condition the ends so that they don't absorb too much color during the process.

The reason? The ends of your hair are usually the most porous and have a tendency to really soak up color.

SHINE BOOSTER

Boost the shine of your hair
Once your hair is completely dry, finish it off with a cool blast of air to seal the cuticle.

The reason? If the cuticles are ragged, there is no shine...

FOODS TO AVOID

Foods that seem to be harmful to your hair
There are some foods that you should avoid and replace them with fresh fruits and vegetables.

Why? To ensure that the hair that is forming beneath the surface of your scalp is healthy.

So, the foods to avoid include too many sweets, chocolate, cakes and cookies. Unfortunately, these favorites simply don't help your hair.

FULLER HEAD OF HAIR

Have a fuller head of hair
?

Try a little scalp massage to stimulate hair growth.
It not only feels wonderful, it's good for you, too. Oh yes, the feeling is just, aaah, you have to do it! :-)

HAIR COLOR MISTAKES

The worst thing you can do if you color your own hair is to apply the permanent color throughout your hair every time you color.

The reason? It makes the hair more porous with the repeated colorings and it grabs more color giving you uneven color. Also, it is not healthy for your hair.

So try a semi permanent color instead, if you don't have the time to do the job properly.

HAIR DRYING AND THE BRUSH

The worst thing you can do if you color your own hair is to apply the permanent color throughout your hair every time you color.

You know how vulnerable your hair is while it is wet. Using the brush can really do some damage.

So, after you shampoo your hair, blot it dry with a towel and then try to detangle it with your fingers. Don't use the brush! This is the time when you can stretch the strands and weaken them to the point where they snap.

When you brush your wet hair you can also cause frizzing to occur. Don't pick up the brush until your hair is somewhere between damp and dry and then use the blow dryer and a round brush until it is styled and completely dry.

INSTANT VOLUME

Bigger volume of hair
Do you have long hair and you'd like more volume?

Towel your hair dry and then it pull up on the top of your head. Secure with a fat "elastic" (that won't damage or crease your hair ) and then blow dry the scalp hair until it is dry.

This will give you plenty of volume with little effort.

STRESS AND YOUR HAIR

Stress: the universal culprit
Apparently stress can affect your hair as well.

Any tension/stress can bring about disorders of the scalp . This could be a cause of the dandruff you have been fighting....

SPECIAL CARE

Treat Dry Hair
Hair normally has a moisture content of approximately 10%. If your hair’s moisture content drops below this level the key is to increase the hair’s ability of attract and retain moisture. This is accomplished by using moisturizers.

Good ones have "humectants" that not only replace lost moisture but actually attract moisture and retain it in the cortex of the hair. Essential fatty aids (EFA’s) are great moisturizers. One of the best and most cost effective essential fatty acids is safflower oil. It is the kind you can buy to cook with. It is rich in EFA’s.

The scalp produces the best EFA’s called sebum. The problems is once the hair grows past the neck line or does not have direct contact with the scalp the scalps natural oils can not be utilized throughout the hair shaft.
