The Sikkim Manipal University of Health, Medical and Technological Sciences, Gangtok, and hereinafter referred to as ‘SMU’, is incorporated under the State Legislative Act (Act IX of 1995) of the Government of Sikkim. It is recognized by the Ministry of Human Resource Development - Government of India and University Grants Commission under section 2(f)

SMU's Degrees / Diplomas / Certificates are recognized by all members of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and are at par with Degrees / Diplomas / Certificates of all Indian Universities/Deemed Universities/Institutions vide UGC Circular No FI-B/92 (CPP) dated February 1992 & AIU Circular No EV/B (449)/94/176915-177115 dated January, 1994

Prabhat Institute Of IT & Management is permitted to offer courses of SMU leading to Diploma, Bachelors' Degree, PG Diploma and Masters' Degree. To improve the quality of lecture and faculty presentations, Prabhat Institute Of IT & Management have been equipped with effective interactive distance learning system - making use of VSAT technology. The presentations are delivered in the studios at Manipal and can be seen live and heard by the students at Prabhat Institute Of IT & Management connected through the VSAT terminals.
