Prabhat Institute of IT & Management is permitted to offer courses of SMU leading to Diploma, Bachelors' Degree, PG Diploma and Masters' Degree. To improve the quality of lecture and faculty presentations, Prabhat Institute Of IT & Management  have been equipped with effective interactive distance learning system - making use of VSAT technology. The presentations are delivered in the studios at Manipal and can be seen live and heard by the students at Prabhat Institute Of IT & Management connected through the VSAT terminals.

The course materials are designed by the experts keeping industry requirements in view. The registered students will be supplied with printed course materials, assignments. They will be given Counseling, Practical Training, Projects and Interactive Distance Education through VSAT technology

The courses are designed for Multi entry and Multi exit. i.e. one can take entry to the higher semester if he meets the qualification requirements of the particular semester. Similarly a student can exit from the course at certain levels, for which corresponding degrees will be awarded.

It is recognized by the Ministry of Human Resource Development - Government of India and University Grants Commission under section 2(f). DEC Approved.

SMU's Degrees/ Diplomas/Certificates are recognized by all members of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and are at par with Degrees / Diplomas / Certificates of all Indian Universities / Deemed Universities/Institutions vide UGC Circular No FI-B/92 (CPP) dated February 1992 & AIU Circular No EV/B (449)/94/176915-177115 dated January, 1994
